Underpants on Fire?

So, I needed some new underwear, and headed to T.K. Maxx here in Hamburg. Took me quite a while to find some I liked, but finally settled on these in the pic. Got them home, tried them on, all is well. But then, I saw the inside label. Of course, my first instinct was to laugh out loud. Who the hell needs this warning? Then, I wondered if I was being too flippant about it. I mean it must be there for a real purpose, mustn’t it? So, my mind went to work. And now, this little inside label has…

Public Marriage Proposals: Yea or Nay

Just read a flight attendant lost her job because her fiancé proposed to her midflight. I feel bad for her, but also… I love romantic gestures, but some people’s version of it stupefies me. Yeah, sometimes I wonder too how a curmudgeon like me can write romance. For instance, people planning weddings they cannot afford—and literally digging a financial hole for themselves taking years to climb out of. Sometimes paying even after the wholly predictable divorce. And proposals–why do they require an audience? Perfect strangers who don’t know you from Adam (or Eve, to be politically correct) to witness your marriage proposal? A…

September’s Take a Man on a Date Month. Ever Done It?

Turns out September is Take a Man on a Date Month. I had no clue it even existed, never mind having ever done it. Oh sure, I’ve been out with a guy and spontaneously offered to pay for dinner. I’ve come that much into the 21st century. But to call a guy I’m not dating and invite him on a date? Never in all my years. And it gets worse. I’ve never even offered a full-service date to someone I was dating. Certainly, I’ve offered suggestions for things we could do, but that’s hardly the same as planning a surprise date and…

Sex-Selfies: Yes or No?

Unsolicited Penis Portraiture…a devilishly clever phrase. But what’s it mean? In a nutshell, people sending unrequested sex-selfies of their intimate body parts to others. Men love sending sexy selfies (or sexlfies) of their junk according to a recent New York Post article. Women do also, but their sexflies are mostly solicited. That’s all intriguing, but my concern is sex-selfies period. As a teen, I rarely credited my parents with having brains, nevermind advice worth listening to. My father never talked about dating (he simply didn’t let us date), but as I went 2,000 miles away to college at 17, Daddy imparted…

Why Divorce Date?

So, I am reading 4 Reasons to Date Someone Who’s Been Divorced. First off, I learned something new. Seems there’s still a stigma attached to dating divorced people. Never knew that, especially since at a certain age, if s/he isn’t divorced, I would wonder. Okay, but that’s not my point here. After reading the article, I realized my reason Numero Uno didn’t appear. In fact, this reason might make it advantageous to only divorce date. So here it is.   1.  How they treat their former spouse is a GOLD MINE of information. I am divorced, and my former husband and I are still…

Movie Trailer: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

I loved this book, as can be seen here in my book review. If a book makes me want to visit somewhere, it’s done it’s job. And I am determined to one day visit Guernsey. But as my post on books turned movies laments, I am forever disappointed by the cinematic versions of books. Does that mean I won’t be going to see Guernsey Literary…hell, naw. The video entices, and the actors are top drawer. So most likely, me and my smuggled popcorn will be there. What can I say? My dad always said I didn’t have the sense God gave tiny…
